Pelican cave

Elma, Vietnam

Elma is from Malaysia, but she loves to travel around and Vietnam is her favorite destination. When she wrote the postcard (in 2012) she said that she haven’t visited Europe yet, so I hope since then she had a time and money to visit some of European beauties.

Additional info – Pelican cave or The Bo Nau cave lies 13 km away from Bai Chay Tourist Wharf, in the southwest of Halong Bay.
It is called Pelican Cave, because in the past, the cave was home to a squadron of pelicans, “Bo Nau” sounds the same as the Vietnamese word for the pelican, “bo nong” .
The mouth of Bo Nau Cave is quite wide with the size of 5-7 meters. It’s in the shape of arch and has many stalactites falling down from the ceiling. Right on the entrance are three blocks of stone. They look like a sculpture of three fairies with their heads close to one another. Two appear to be playing chess, with the third serving as a referee.
