Simona, Romania

This postcard wasn’t sent to me by post, but actually, it was brought to me, personally by Simona. Ahh, I miss the time when she visited me and we spent such a lovely time in Macedonia. Time flies so fast. She loved our mountains and it reminded her of the ones in Romania. So this one is from Rarau massif. I love vast mountain landscapes, sometimes just looking at them (not being able to be physically present), gives me peace and relaxation. If I strongly concentrate, I can actually smell the nature on the postcard😌

Additional information – Rarau mountains are full of unusual-shaped rock formations and panoramic views, all in the space of a former prehistoric tropical sea.
What makes this place so special is the unique combination of ruiniform landscapes, like the ‘Lady’s Stones’, Soimului’s Stone, Zimbrului’s Stone.
The ‘Lady’s Stones’ and the other rock formations are the main attractions of all hiking trails. This of course has its own legend.
The Legend says that in 1538, when Moldova was ruled by Petru Rares and the Turks led by Suleyman the Magnificent attacked the fortress of Suceava. Petru Rares, betrayed by his boyars, went wandering over the mountains together with his wife, Elena and their son Stefanita. Elena took shelter in the caves and rocks from the top of Rarau Mountains, along with her son and a part of their fortune. Lady Elena then prayed for salvation that came, however, with a cost. The legend says that big rocks fell from the mountain, killing the attackers, but also the treasure that lady Elena hide. Lady Elena said “That’s the payment for our salvation” and then the stones were given the name “The Lady’s Rocks” .
According to the legend, the treasure is still buried under the ‘Lady’s Rocks’, named this way after Lady Elena Rares.
Today the mountainous area is a Natural Reservation called “Lady’s Rocks” which covers an area of 933 ha in Rarau Mountains and “hosting” the Bats’ Cave and the Bison’s Stone at the same time, a formation that creates a vertical wall of 100 m high and of 600 m length.
