This legendary place with astonishing view was sent by Rina, with whom i have exchanged few postcards and she mention that she really enjoys my postcards and talks that we are sharing through postcards.
Once i read the legend she wrote on the back of the postcard i started searching for the place and is really amazing, not only the story but the view that serves.
The legend – According to the legend that’s being passed down through generations of the Sundanese community, Tangkuban Perahu was created from an upside down boat.
The legend says that Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi, who without his knowledge was his own mother. Sangkuriang wanted even to marry her, but Dayang Sumbi knew that she was his mother and she started asking for impossible stipulations for Sangkuriang to make, so he will give up of the idea to merry her. So she asked him to create very big boat in one night, because she кnew that is not possible to make and she wont marry him. But after the boat was 90% ready, his mother knew that he made it with the help of a genie. Then she run far away from him. He was so frustrated that he kicked the boat which went all upside down and turned into Mount Tangkuban Perahu that is today.
Additional information – Tangkuban perahu is an active volcano and it is the only crater in Indonesia that you can drive up to its very rim.
Tangkuban Perahu has definitely a significant role especially in the development of the surrounding Parahyangan (land of God) Highlands. Its eruption contributed immensely to the formation and fertility of the hills.
Located at the highland just at the outskirt of Bandung, Tangkuban Perahu Crater is surely a perfect place to enjoy cool air and relaxing sceneries.
