San Pedro de Alcantara – Petrópolis

Genesio, Brazil

Genesio stamped so many stickers and stamps and only a few words to describe the postcard. But looking at them and at the postcard, words are needless to say anyway.
It took me seconds from putting the postcard down and start searching this wonder of a building, that proudly represents the postcard. San Pedro de Alcantara Cathedral is a mystical structure as the saint himself.
This gothic creature is simply recognized as the Cathedral of Petropolis, and San Pedro de Alcantara is the patron saint of the city.

Additional Information – San Pedro or Peter Garavita was born in Alcantara, Spain, and actually is a patron saint of nocturnal adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Besides in Brazil and Spain, he is a patron saint in some regions in the US and Philippines.
Also, The Cathedral is a resting place of the last Emperor of Brazil, Dom Pedro II, and his family.

The city of Petropolis is a historical mountain town, surrounded by museums and churches with European style from mid century. With charming old fashioned streets, gothic palaces and clean air, I believe are enough reasons for a perfect escape from the crowd.
