San Francisco Highlights

Ruta, San Francisco

One of the cities i love the most from USA is San Francisco…i dont know why. Maybe is because of high, narrow streets, or the weather, or the cable cars or simply the cozines that is always showed on the movies. Or maybe all together. Ruta loves the weather and she lives on the bay of the city 😮 how amazing is that?
She shared with me the quote that Oscar Wilde once said:
– It’s an odd thing, but anyone who disappears is said to be seen in San Francisco.
Well said 🙂

Additional info – San Francisco is home to a little bit of everything.
Before it was renamed to San Francisco, this small city by the bay was called Yerba Buena. Yerba Buena means, “Good herb” in Spanish. It was founded in 1776, but renamed in 1846.
The city is built on more than 50 hills 😮 For that reason they have the amazing cable cars 🙂
Cable cars are a historic symbol for the city, recognized around the globe and offer real working transportation up the steep hills of San Francisco.
Those who want to learn more about San Francisco cable cars can check out The Cable Car Museum. There can be seen some of the historic cable cars, can be learnt all about the different eras of the San Francisco cable car and photographs of the cars in action. The neatest part, though, is that this is actually the powerhouse of the cable car system and if you are lucky enough to visit it one day, you can see the huge engines at work as they pull the massive cables that run the cars.
SF has the second largest Chinatown outside of Asia. It’s the oldest in North America. It also has the largest and oldest Japantown in the United States. And here is one interesting fact about fortune cookie. The Chinese fortune cookie was invented by a Japanese resident of San Francisco. Interesting right? And there is also San Francisco’s Fortune Cookie Factory – Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory.
