Belgium

Belgium is world-famous for its chocolate, waffles, beer and there are many more things that I will mention later, but these are my favorite. Praline chocolates were invented by Jean Neuhaus in Brussels in 1912. Today, Belgium is the world’s number one exporter of chocolate, with 220,000 tones of chocolate produced per year. The second thing Belgium is world-known for is the beer. There are over 1100 varieties of beers made in Belgium and the country often produces international award-winning varieties. And the waffles are third thing Belgium is famous for. There are 3 main types of Belgian waffles, the most common is Liege waffles which are eaten like a cookie, Brussels waffles are larger and lighter in color and eaten with toppings such as strawberries or ice cream, while galettes are thin, soft and usually eaten for breakfast with jam.
Belgium has more comic makers per square km than any other country in the world. Famous comic book series to come out of Belgium include, The Adventures of Tintin, The Smurfs and Asterix (originally a French creation for French-Belgian audiences).
Few of the famous people coming from Belgium, are: Gerardus Mercator – a cartographer who developed the first world map, Adolphe Sax – he who invented the saxophone, Georges Lemaitre – a Belgian Catholic priest and physicist who would come to refute Einstein’s theory of relativity and posit what we know today as the ‘Big Bang Theory.’ From the film industry are Audrey Hepburn, an iconic actress, the actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, Johnny Galecki and many more
Other interesting fact I would like to mention is that, the town of Spa in Belgium is where the word ‘spa’ comes from.
